MetGen consortium: Re-thinking all plastic packaging

About the project
The consortium will improve their processes through enzymatic solutions to quality, performance and economics of their renewable packaging material by enabling the use of hardwood for the production of fructose, which will be used for the manufacturing of 100 % bio-based plastic bottles and other plastic packaging. This will be supported by advanced enzyme technologies of the project coordinator MetGen, and aims to replace the use of food/starch based fructose for plastics.
Impact of the project:
The project enables the production of plastics from wood – a sustainable solution entirely from renewable materials that is also technically and economically superior to the technologies and materials in use today.

Spinverse’s role
Spinverse supported MetGen and the consortium members from Sweden and the Netherlands to apply for Horizon 2020 funding.
Spinverse assisted the members of the consortium in the funding proposal procedures and actively worked to ensure the overall quality of the project proposal.
The consortium was among the 6 % of applicants to receive funding and MetGen was the only successful Finnish project participant in the FTI call in 2015.

About the project
The LIFE Lit4Nature aims to establish a stronger, evidence-based system for biodiversity conservation and restoration across Lithuania. Major focus will be placed on strengthening the national biodiversity monitoring system, improving data collection and integration and on introducing innovative monitoring approaches to support evidence-based conservation and restoration decisions.
Impact of the project:
The project aims to boost stronger biodiversity and ecosystem recovery across Lithuania through nationwide conservation and restoration. Further, it wants to achieve better national coordination for efficient and well targeted conservation measures and their funding.

Spinverse’s role
Spinverse experts supported the coordinator throughout the two-stage LIFE Strategic Nature Project application process from concept note development to submitting the final proposal.
The support included workshops that brought together the proposal team to sharpen the project concept and focus the application on the most relevant and critical aspects of Lithuania's
Prioritised Action Framework for Natura 2000 and the forthcoming National Restoration Plan.
Spinverse’s strategic guidance, hands-on support and thorough quality reviews helped us focus on the critical aspects, strengthen the proposal logic and present its impacts convincingly.
