About the project
The PEFerence project will establish a globally first-of-a-kind, industrial scale, cost-effective FDCA (diacid) biorefinery flagship plant. FDCA is the building block for the production of chemicals and materials such as food packaging, films and Lego bricks from plant-based materials. It presents new alternatives to fossil-based plastic solutions.
Based on renewable feedstock, products made of PEF will significantly help to replace fossil-based packaging materials and are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. PEF bottles can be recycled and re-used as raw material for bottles, as well as in a cascading approach for packaging and textiles.
Impact of the project:
The project aims to engineer and build the flagship plant for the production of purified FDCA (50,000 tonnes/year), demonstrating, validating and commercialising 100% bio-based materials in end user applications.

Spinverse’s role
Spinverse led the project management of the PEFerence project, covering the day-to-day management and project management through the whole consortium with the strong expertise of innovation management and project management.
Furthermore, Spinverse ensured project planning, as well as the quality of activities during the whole project.
Spinverse has been a highly professional and reliable partner throughout several of our large EU coordination projects. Their proactive support in project management greatly strengthened Avantium’s role as Coordinator, keeping complex consortia aligned and contributing directly to the successful completion of the CBE JU–funded PEFerence flagship project.

About the project
The LIFE Lit4Nature aims to establish a stronger, evidence-based system for biodiversity conservation and restoration across Lithuania. Major focus will be placed on strengthening the national biodiversity monitoring system, improving data collection and integration and on introducing innovative monitoring approaches to support evidence-based conservation and restoration decisions.
Impact of the project:
The project aims to boost stronger biodiversity and ecosystem recovery across Lithuania through nationwide conservation and restoration. Further, it wants to achieve better national coordination for efficient and well targeted conservation measures and their funding.

Spinverse’s role
Spinverse experts supported the coordinator throughout the two-stage LIFE Strategic Nature Project application process from concept note development to submitting the final proposal.
The support included workshops that brought together the proposal team to sharpen the project concept and focus the application on the most relevant and critical aspects of Lithuania's
Prioritised Action Framework for Natura 2000 and the forthcoming National Restoration Plan.
Spinverse’s strategic guidance, hands-on support and thorough quality reviews helped us focus on the critical aspects, strengthen the proposal logic and present its impacts convincingly.
